Sam Morsy scores winner against Hartlepool

The man who's Chesterfield future is in doubt yet again showed us why everyone is so desperate for him to stay, by scoring the only goal in a tight pre-season friendly against League 2 side Hartlepool United at Victoria Park, in the 75th minute, after Ebanks-Blake layed the ball off to him in the penalty area, and he coolly finished with a first time shot.

There were 54 town fans that made the two hour trip to Hartlepool, and their loyalty was rewarded with a 1-0 win. The game was very much in the balance, with Ebanks Blake having the best chance of the game, apart from the goal, with a low shot from the six yard box which forced an excellent save from Hartlepool reserve keeper Adam Bartlett, who replaced their first team keeper, Trevor Carson, who was out due to injury. Another noticeable spireite performance apart from Morsy and Blake was Gboly Ariyibi who as usual was running at the defence for the majority of the game.

Hartlepool did create the odd chance throughout the game. One chance came in the 62nd minute, when Michael Woods put a ball through the defense, which Rakish Bingham latched onto before laying it off to Carl Magnay, who sliced his finish wide. Their best chance came in the 38th minute, when Michael Woods played the ball out wide on the right, to Nicky Featherstone, who then gave it to Michael Duckworth, who took a shot on goal which was parried by Tommy Lee back out to Billy Paynter, who put the rebound over the bar.

So a good solid win in the end, maybe not the best performance, but a win is a win. Also, this means we go into the new season having won four friendlies in a row, which is sure to boost the team's confidence despite our recent player sales. Bring a few championship players into the squad and i think we'll be alright.
